In Tuscany, each season paints the landscape with its own colours. Maybe, the most fascinating seasons is fall, when grapevine leaves get from green to red, yellow, purple.

Come raggiungere la Toscana

It is harvesting time both for olives and for grapes: an experience not to miss for the best of Tuscany.

The grape harvesting is a special and convivial moment of great satisfaction for the producers: the results of a year-lasting work are finally ready to be collected and transformed into the fantastic Tuscan wines famous in the whole world. There are many wineries with resorts offering the possibility to watch and also to participate in the grape harvesting, giving you the chance to live something unique, in contact with local people repeating this gestures every year and carrying on a secular farming culture.

Tuscany gathers in its own territory some of the best wine regions in Italy.

Montalcino, Chianti, Montepulciano and Bolgheri are famous for their red wines, like Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, Nobile di Montepulciano ore the great Supertuscans, each with its peculiarities due to its specific terroir. These products are listed every year at the top of the rankings of the best wines in the world.

Sangiovese is certainly the most common wine variety of Tuscany: with its strong but silky tannins it recalls in mouth both the harshness and the elegance of Tuscan hills, like Chianti, Montalcino and Moltepulciano (where it is named Prugnolo gentile) or Scansano area for Morellino. Together with Sangiovese, many blends are created especially in the Chianti region, where you can find local grape varieties (Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia…) or the international ones (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Nero) that depending on how they are blended, define the character of each Chianti wine. However, when we talk about blends, the first area coming to our mind must be Bolgheri, where some of the best enology masterpieces of the latest times have been created: Supertuscans. Among the most famous ones, you find Masseto, Ornellaia, Solaia, Sassicaia, but also Tignanello and Pergole Torte in the Chianti shire.

There is no better moment than the harvesting season to deeply enjoy the richness of these wines.

Picture yourself at the table, having lunch with the best Tuscan food and the top wines of the best winery in Tuscany.

All wineries have a great offer of activities, which gets even larger during fall, especially at the beginning of November, when once finished the olive harvesting, you can add to your wine tasting also an olive oil tasting with “olio nuovo”. Something your taste buds will never forget.
