Spoiler: 5 of them are on the most visited museums list of the whole world!

Let’s start from the northern regions, border places which also thanks to their museums splendidly reflect the idea of intercultural. In Piedmont you can admire the great Egyptian Museum, the Galleria Sabaudia and the National Museum of Cinema. All of them are in the regal Turin. In the near Val d’Aosta you can’t miss the Osservatorio Planetario and the Museo Alpino whereas in Friuli Venezia Giulia we recommend the Miramare Castle museum (a real jewel) and Revoltella Museum in Trieste and the thematic park of the World War in Monfalcone. Veneto welcomes you with the majestic Doge’s Palace of Venice, the Archeological Museum and the Museum of Far Eastern art. In Trentino we suggest the wonderful Mart, Muse and Castello del Buonconsiglio. Northern Italy ends with Lombardy, extremely rich of important Italian museums like the Cenacolo Vinciano, Theatre La Scala museum, Castello Sforzesco, Pinacoteca of Brera, the Gallery of Modern Art and Palazzo Te.

Moving down to the central regions of Italy we find the National Gallery of Parma, Pinacoteca of Bologna and the Mausoleum of Theodoric in Ravenna, all located in Emilia-Romagna. Liguria is beautifully marked by Galata Museum and the Museum of Natural History Giacomo Doria in Genova while Umbria shows Museum of Chocolate and National Gallery of Umbria. For the Marche we highlight the Archeological Museum of Ancona and Casa Rossini. We are now in Tuscany, one of the most popular destination in the world and very important talking about Italian art and Italian museums. This region really deserve a lot of attention if you are planning a vacation in Italy. Florence, the capital city of Tuscany, is a trunk of priceless gems like Palazzo Pitti, Vasari Corridor, Uffizzi, National Museum of Bargello and Accademia delle belle arti, safes of Italian artistic patrimony which makes Florence an unmissable stage during an holiday in Tuscany. Just few kilometers away there is Siena, another incredible example of Italian art of Medieval and Renaissance eras: here we recommend to visit the Museum of the Opera of the Duomo and the Civic Museum in Piazza del Campo.

Our journey continues direction South, discovering breath-taking lands, mostly known for gastronomic culture and natural beauties, but where also museums and artistic patrimony require to be mentioned. Campania, for example, is embellished by famous Italian museums as Capodimonte and Royal Palace in Naples, Reggia di Caserta and Pompei. In Abruzzo are very appreciated Piccolomini Castel of Celano, Sulmona Civic Museum and the birthplace of the poet Gabriele D’annunzio. Concerning Calabria and Molise, we report Magna Grecia Archeologic Museum and Paleolithic National Museum. In Puglia there is the unmissable Castel del Monte and the Archeologic Park of Siponto whereas in Basilicata we find Musma and Ridola Museum, both of them located in the stunning Matera, city with an enormous relevance for tourism in Italy.

Let’s analyze the great islands, Sicily and Sardinia.
